"GOSPEL ACCORDING TO LOST" REVIEW

This review will be biased. Here's why...

  1. I've heard author Chris Seay speak a handful of times. This guy brings the truth and honesty in a way I haven't heard before.
  2. I like the Seay family. Robbie Seay Band is one of my faves. (Robbie and Chris = brothers.)
  3. In case you are brand new to this blog, I am a HUGE FAN OF LOST. (All the way down to my "Jack" action figure on my desk.)
  4. This is my first book on my Kindle, so I was very excited for this new e-book experience.
  5. Did I mention that I love LOST?
I love when pop culture and God collide/cross/intertwine/tangle/dance. "Lost" is one of those television shows where those collisions happens. Here is my relationship with LOST; I have never missed an episode, and I usually watch each episode twice. I read the blogs, the websites, I watch for clues, I discuss in detail with friends our LOST theories. Never has there been a show that can kick up such heated debate-dust than LOST.

You can tell by reading this book that the author is a fan of the show. You can also tell that Chris Seay watches the show through a "faith-filter". Spotting God-moments along the way. Each chapter takes on a show character and gives us a "did you notice this?" or "did you see that?" about the character, and how sometimes the character mirrors someone or an event in the Bible that we may have not noticed the first time around.

My favorite chapters were the ones that focused on Jack, John, and Sawyer. Each character comes with so much "baggage" and yet how they fit into the story is amazing.

If you are a fan of LOST, read this book. (In fact, do it before Season 6 launches in a month. Not because there are revelations and clues, but just as a great appetizer.)

Read this book if you love when God shows up in the culture, and someone has illuminated those moments, thank you Chris.

Read this book if you want a fresh perspective on some of the best television characters ever.

Some of us see ourselves in Jack, (wanting perfection and wanting to help and heal everyone.) Some of us see ourselves as John, (being "special" or "chosen"), and some of us definately resound with Sawyer, (where we think we are so far from the grace of God that there's no way someone could love us after what we've done or the way we've lived). I feel like Hurley some days, I just want to make everybody happy and that we all get along.

Thank you Chris Seay for helping me see some things in the show I didn't notice before.

****On a separate note. I like the Kindle. I do miss having a book in my hand. I do miss wandering the Barnes & Noble looking at covers, cruising the aisles. But I love the immediacy of getting the book in 60 seconds downloaded.
